Jimmie Johnson Adds Chicago Street Course to His 2023 Schedule

During yesterday's NASCAR Bush Light Clash at the Coliseum, seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson sat in the Fox Sports broadcast booth and announced he would run in NASCAR's race at the Chicago Street Course in July. Johnson has already confirmed that he will attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500 as a non-chartered entry. Johnson also will be one of the drivers for the Garage 56 project that will field a NASCAR Cup Series car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Johnson joined then Petty GMS as a co-owner at the end of the 2022 season. The team has since been rebranded as Legacy Motor Club. He will drive the number 84 Carvana Chevy Camero alongside teammates Erik Jones and Noah Gragson. Jimmie Johnson is expected to announce more races he will participate in throughout the season. This is the first season NASCAR has raced at the Chicago Street Course and is also the first time the series has points-raced on a street course. It will be the first time the Cup Series has raced in Chicago since 2019 after Chicagoland Speedway was removed from the schedule of NASCAR's major touring series.
