Adam Pettet won his sixth race of the season of the season in the NexDiag 120 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, now the winningest driver of the 2022 season. With the NSRA Beer Street Journal Grand National Series in the final few races of the season, the strong performance by Pettet was crucial in trying to win the 2022 series championship.

Adam Pettet crosses the line to win the NexDiag 120 at Charlotte
Pettet lead 29 of the 105 total laps completed in the event. The race went into a Beer Street Journal Last Call after Jason Gracias got lose on the final restart in regulation creating a massive pileup that took out several strong cars. Also leading laps were Trey Whitehead (13), Philip Scott (18), Tom Lester (10), Matt Cherry (8), and Jason Gracias (27). Trey Whitehead started the race on pole, his fourth of the 2022 season.
A lot of drivers had good runs at Charlotte. Bryce Hunter finished 4th, his first top 5 finish since winning at Atlanta in July. Steven Leschinsky finished in 5th place, his first top 5 in the 2022 season. Trey Whitehead continued what is now a six race top 10 streak with his 2nd place finish. It was also Pettet's fifth consecutive top 5 finish.

Beer Street Journal Playoff Points after Charlotte
Adam Pettet extended the points lead he took last back last week by an extra 30 points. Nate Mowrer looked to be losing many more points, running one lap down near the end of the race. But saved by a Brookstone Animal Hospital Lucky Dog Award and some great restarts, Mowrer rallied to a 3rd place finish. Adam Pettet, Trey Whitehead, and Adam Newton stayed out on a late race caution. Except for Newton who was involved in the big wreck that put the race to the Last Call, Pettet and Whitehead were able to hold their position on nearly 25 lap older tires.
Next week the series heads to another mile-and-a-half, this time Kentucky Motor Speedway. The track known for having one of the toughest turns in NASCAR (Turns 3 and 4) will mark only three races left in the 2022 season. Points leader Adam Pettet said in his post-race interview that he was not sure if he would be able to race in the season finale at Las Vegas on October 27th, so these next few races will be critical for the driver of the number 83 machine in his championship campaign. Make sure to tune into WRN next Thursday night for the Beer Street Journal 150 at Bluegrass Country, which will set the tone for the final two races.
